As me and my teammates are all into the music styles of hip-hop/rap along with the American culture, this is the genre we've decided to pick and shot our music video of.
Here is our three initial song options:

1. Write This Down feat. Nieve (Soulchef, feat. Nieve)
Produced by SoulChef
Release Date November 17, 2010
Brief summary: One of SoulChef’s most popular productions, “Write This Down” serves as the 14th track on his debut album Escapism and features Los Angeles Rapper Nieve, who spits two verses over the soul-filled beat.
What type of MV it is: lip sync-in the music video, it's all that the rapper- Nieve singing and dancing along the music, while doing lip syncs at different locations of a city.
Possible representation: The song's theme links closely with the musician character being projected as slightly depressed and frustrated, while the lyrics reflects that although a person has upsets in their life, there are still ways to be strong and carry on.
Pros of this idea: The meaning directed in the song is on the neutral side, making this a valid reason to choose this song as the one we are filming of.
Cons of this idea: The flow of the song is so good that it makes it extremely hard to follow along and do the lip sync. So this may require the actor a long time to learn the lyrics by heart, and may cause trouble with matching up the lip sync along the song perfectly while shooting and editing.

2. The Next Episode feat. Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Nate Dogg
Release Date July 4, 2000
(Dr.Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Nate Dogg)
Brief summary: “The Next Episode” was released as the third single from Dr. Dre’s 2001 and features his frequent Dogg Pound collaborators Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and Kurupt. A previous Snoop Dogg/Dr. Dre collaboration was entitled “Tha Next Episode” and intended for inclusion on Snoop’s debut album Doggystyle in 1993 but was removed due to an uncleared sample. The beat for that version was later used on Warren G’s “Runnin' Wit No Breaks.”
What type of MV it is: Lip sync with a bit of performance- with the artists singing along the lyrics over-lapping with small performances.
Possible representation: The Music Video is set in a strip club with many strippers doing pole-dancing, and the idea being represented is that the rich people living in the hoods and the west-coast community are living a thug life with drugs, alcohol, and gambling.
Pros of this idea: The song is overall very catchy with few very classic and memorable lines of lyrics, so that the actor won't have many trouble memorizing the lyrics.
Cons of this idea: The representation and lyrics of this song may be inappropriate for our age and situation of shooting an academic video.

3. HUMBLE. (Kendrick Lamar)
Produced by Pluss & Mike WiLL Made-It
Release Date March 30, 2017
Brief summary: On the ironically braggadocio-us track “HUMBLE.” Kendrick Lamar challenges his competition. It was released a week after the first promotional single, “The Heart Part 4,” with a music video directed by Dave Meyers and The Little Homies.
What type of MV it is: Concept-The “HUMBLE.” video uses a lot of different visual effects, contributing to an over-whelming video filled with unique features.
Possible representation: The MV features religious imagery mixed with urban life, such as Kendrick in priest’s robes and a moving re-enactment of Leonardo Da Vinci’s painting The Last Supper—juxtaposing this with the concept of humility in the chorus.
Pros of this idea: The song is very famous all across the world, and many people will have heard bits of it. This makes our music video easily recognizable by the audience, which will allow them a easier time relating the song with the content that we've shot.
Cons of this idea: The connotation of the song requires us a good understanding of the religiously-linked lyrics thats very imagery, so it can be very hard to produce contents that have a strong correlation with the song while reflecting its accurate representation.
