What is a social media page for?

Social media is a platform/medium opened socially to individuals that they can post freely onto including texts, images, and videos etc. And it is a modern way that people use very often remotely to communicate and share with each other. Almost all celebrities&artists around the world use social media as an effective way to create their personal fanbase or to promote their new work, and some of the most used platforms are like Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok etc.


Key conventions/features of social media

Contents on social media can have a big variety from images to videos to music, and each content will have a purpose such as sharing, announcing, promoting, and advertising. Stars and celebrities can be presented as a carefully groomed and well-designed image on social media that they are represented by their best sides to the mass audience who uses social media. Also, social media provides the opportunity for collaborations and partnerships between individuals that they can produce more entertaining contents while gaining more popularity and profits.


Chinese rapper/dancer/idol Jackson Wang's Instagram page

Jackson Wang and his team utilized every available functions on Instagram to create a great variety of contents, and despite being a Chinese artist and influencer, has successfully gained over 3o million followers from all over the world which I think has definitely met his dream of 'going globally'. As a positive result, he has joined the music recording company '88rising' which helps him to distribute his songs, doing world tours visiting 6 countries in a season, and being the first Chinese solo to perform individually at the renowned musical festival 'Coachella'.

The screenshot on the left shows Jackson's Instagram homepage where it gives his basic biography which includes his newest plans/updates such as the world tour and his new album. Below that are a list of Instagram story highlights in circles where it shows his collaboration with Louis Vuitton, updates for his personal designer brand 'TEAM WANG', his personal lifestyle, and more for the mass audience to click on and see. Underneath are three posts pinned to the top that he wanted the audience to see first which promotes his album 'MAGIC MAN' and his newest music videos.


The screenshot on the middle shows his newest music video 'Cruel', and this is where he utilized the video function of Instagram that makes the audience gain interest by seeing a glimpse of his newest work.


And the screenshot on the right is one where he's advertising for the OnePlus 11 and telling the audience that he has become the brand's first APAC smartphone ambassador, and this is when he will post the official ads picture provided by the product's company.

The screenshot on the left is when Jackson uses the most basic purpose of Instagram which is to share a selfie of himself as a life update, and this effectively brings him closer to the audience as a public figure.


The screenshot in the middle shows the music services provided such as Spotify, iTunes, and the official store when clicking the link provided below his new album in the biography section. This allows his audience to gain direct and efficient access to services provided in relation to his artworks, which could potentially increase their willingness to do related purchases.

The screenshot on the right presents what appears when the audience click on his Instagram story's highlight, and here it presents a short film telling us the campaign between Louis Vuitton and Jackson Wang about the 2023 Paris fashion week.

The screenshot on the left provides the audience information about his world tour including the dates and locations, and with the link down below, it gives his fans the easiest way to have access to the tickets online. At the bottom of the picture, shows the different companies and organizations that Jackson is using to put on the concerts.


The screenshot in the middle shows one of his photoshoot with the fashion and lifestyle magazine VOGUE. In the photo, extreme saturated and contrasting colors red and black are used to encourage AIDA(Attention Interest Desire Action) as people won't normally see any photo like this, so when they are caught by attention on Instagram's 'explore' page, it's very likely for them to click on his profile picture which gives the audience access to Jackson's personal page.


The screenshot on the right shows Jackson using a prominent photo to promote his first solo physical album's release, and the pre-order option is shown available to his fans.
