Purpose of a music video (MV)
The purpose of a MV is to sell a song and to let the audience remember it. If the MV made is narrative, then it gives the listener a better understanding of the song. It helps to sell CDs and DVDs to viewers, and entertain them by showing off the musician's talents. It creates a memorable visual for the song in which it increases its chance to sell online or in retailers. And finally, it gives record companies a chance to see new artists and their talents which is directly reflected through the music video.

Who is involved in the making of a music video?
Depending on the scale of production and budget, a team may have as small as three roles that are the director, cinematographer, and editor. And there are other more roles available for a more advanced team such as producer, production designer, make-up artist, grips, camera assistant, choreographer, and boom operator etc.

The different forms/elements of music videos
Performance
This often contain shots of artists performing like on live stage with audience. It can also be artists in real life situations where it includes close ups of the artist with a particular visual style.

Narrative
It's often used to tell a story that features in lyrics and is like a mini film with structures of a beginning, middle and end. The pace of cut is normally very fast with lots of shots and cuts, and it may often include a genre such as a thriller/drama.

Thematic
This may heavily depend on the genre of music such as hip-hop and heavy metal with lots of street images or performance dominated clips.

Symbolic
This use lots of symbols to build up meaning, has usage of montage, and often has mood lighting to set the tone.
