Why are studio logos important?

A studio logo, often known as a production logo is important because it is created so that the audience can easily identify which company has made the film that they're watching, and a well designed one may help them to remember the business.

Which production companies, and studios, are ‘known’ for making Thriller films?

Universal Pictures-Universal is an American film production and distribution company owned by NBC under Comcast. It was founded in 1912, and now it's considered to be one of the biggest movie/film studios along others like Warner Bro's, Disney, and 20 Century Fox etc.. Some of Universal's most famous thrillers are 'Pyscho', 'Dracula', and 'Jaws'.

Hammer Film Productions-Hammer is a British film production company founded in London 1934. It's very much known for it's Gothic horror/thriller films, and it was active in producing movies from around 1950s-1970s. Some of it's best known thrillers are 'Vampire Curses', 'The curse of 'Frankenstein', and 'Dracula'.

Warner Bro's-Warner entertainment is an American multi/mass media conglomerate founded in 1923. It's very much unique because unlike Universal, Pixar, and Lucas Films etc, Warner Bro's is not owned by anyone else as it's studios make their own films including thrillers such as 'The Dark Knight', 'The Matrix', and 'Joker'.

Do their logos suggest anything about the thriller genre and how?

This is Warner Bro's specially designed studio logo for their sci-fi thriller: 'The Matrix'. While the shape and the fonts in the logo are kept identical, every other things have changed to fit with the genre/theme. The most obvious moderation is that the golden saturated logo is turned into a cool-greenish one, and this is done to tell the audience that the theme of the movie will be a depressed and thrilled one. Another change is the back ground, where the bright blue sky full of pure clouds are now mushy and unsaturated, and this is done to build an unpredictable and mysterious vibe for the audience.

Hammer Film Productions are especially known for producing thrillers, and their studio logos always look somewhat similar to this one as shown. The only color we can see here is red, which stands out under the black background and is a clear expression of danger and blood. Similarly important, the font being used here have those little cuts on the edge which kind of looks like claw marks made by beasts, and this fits with the gothic horror theme that Hammer Film Production used to make the most back in time.

Detailed Logo Investigation:

When was Universal's current studio logo first used/Who designed it/Is it still used now?

Universal's Current studio logo designed by Brain Jackson was launched in June 12th 2021, and basically it just involves a minor change (squeezing vertically increasing the breadth to work better on smaller sizes) compared to the 2012 version designed by Weta Digital, and the typography applied is officially called the 'Universal Tertiary'.

How has the logo changed? Why has it changed?

There has been 15 versions of Universal's studio logos up to today, and the changes made over this 100 years period is caused by the changes in art trends, people's aesthetics, and the most important-technology as the more recent ones are specially designed to give off cool effects with the advancements in animation/motion graphics.

What does Universal's logo symbolizes and does it link to a certain genre?

Universal's logo is easily recognizable by the audience due to it's unique minimalist and sleek/detailed and gorgeous (the animated) globe design with the 'Universal' nameplate arched over. The wordings over the globe is executed in a bold traditional sans-serif font which reflects confidence and professionalism, while it's arching placement adds playfulness and shows the unique character of the company, pointing on its creativity and value of style.

What have you learned and how will this help with creating my own logo?

From studying into Universal's studio logo, I've learned that a good studio logo may require multiple drafts, versions, and adaptions before it's actual launch. So, now as I have my initial plans and drafts for my logo, I can make more adaptations and alterations to it before I've come to a conclusion for the actual thing.
